Indian Premier League is the most-watched T20 tournament in the globe and it is played each year. On the other side of the coin, the ODI World Cup is played after every four years and it is imperative for the players to give their best shot in the marquee event.

The last time when Team India won the ODI World Cup was back in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue made it all the way to the final after braving the challenges and went on to defeat Sri Lanka in the high-voltage encounter at Wankhede Stadium.

After that, India failed to make a bid for the third title as they were short of being a force to be reckoned with in the next two ODI World Cups. However, with the ODI World Cup slated to be held in India in 2023 for the first time, it is a great chance for the Indians to turn up the ante and deliver the goods.

The ODI World Cup will be played in the October-November window. Team India have around 10 months time left to figure out a well-balanced team for the main event.

This is precisely the reason why the BCCI itself has decided to shortlist 20 players for the bilateral ODI series. These players will be played on a rotational basis and it would make the job much easier for the BCCI to scoop out the perfect 15-man squad leading into the ODI World Cup.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir made a very honest assessment of Indian players taking part in the upcoming season of the IPL. He made it very clear that ODI World Cup is important as it happens only after four years. He said if the players want to take a rest from IPL, then it will be great since World Cup is significant.
