2 RCB players who were surprisingly dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup

Royal Challengers Bangalore struggled with their overseas combination last season. Barring Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, none of the others were able to cement their spots in the playing XI. Andy Flower will look to work on this before IPL 2024. Meanwhile, a few of the RCB stars failed to make it to the squads of their respective nations for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Here, we take a look at the list of two RCB players who were surprisingly dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

1) Finn Allen

All the while, it appeared that Finn Allen would partner Devon Conway at the top of the order for New Zealand. Although that still stays so for T20Is, in ODIs, Allen’s inconsistency has forced the Kiwis to look for alternatives. The likes of Will Young have been selected as the opening option now.

It actually won’t be a surprise if RCB releases the player before the next auctions. The player is yet to make his IPL debut and his form is tapering off at the international level. Faf du Plessis can never be dropped and hence, Finn Allen may not get his chance next year, as well. Hence, RCB could use this spot to invest elsewhere.

2) Wayne Parnell

Wayne Parnell is one of the RCB players who were surprisingly dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The replacement signing for Reece Topley in IPL 2023, it was a shock to see Parnell miss out on the World Cup squad.

The Proteas have picked a battery of pacers for the upcoming World Cup. Of this, Marco Jansen is the sole left-arm pacer. He is also likely to play at No.7 as the all-rounder. In this regard, it would have been wise to have a backup for him. For his experience, Wayne Parnell would have been a great addition. However, he surprisingly was sidelined.
