Ricky Ponting is one of the greatest players to have played the game of cricket. He achieved a lot of success as the captain of the Australian cricket team. While Ricky dominated most of the bowlers in his cricketing career, he had a tough time facing the deliveries from former Indian cricket team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.
In a recent chat with former Australian cricket team fast bowler Brett Lee, Singh recalled how his deliveries would trouble Ponting. Decoding how he got the better of Ponting so many times in his career, Harbhajan said that the defense of the Australian star was not the greatest.
Explaining what made him vulnerable and the type of deliveries that troubled him, Harbhajan said:
“He had very hard hands against defending the ball. So that’s what made him vulnerable. His defense was not the greatest. He used to defend with very hard hands. My bounce was something he could not play as well as the other bowlers.”
While Harbhajan Singh stated that he dismissed Ricky Ponting on many occasions, he also admitted that if he prepared a list of top five cricket players, Ponting’s name will be present on that list.
Ricky Ponting has retired now and works as a coach for the Delhi Capitals IPL franchise
The rivalry between Ponting and Harbhajan Singh has now ended as both cricketers have called it a day on their respective international careers. Singh recently retired from all formats of cricket. He was going to play for India Maharajas in the Legends League Cricket, but unfortunately, he tested positive for COVID-19 and could not play.
Meanwhile, Ponting has retired from all formats of cricket. He has been working as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals franchise in the IPL and will work in the same role this year as well.
