One of the challenges of being a cricketer in a cricket-mad nation like India is dealing with the pressure-induced by fans and media. MS Dhoni is a role model when it comes to answering tough and tricky questions asked by journalists. The Indian captain is usually a calm figure during post-match interviews and press meetings. But at times, he has shed his character to reply sarcastically or angrily to controversial questions posed by journalists. In this article, we will look at five moments when MS Dhoni gave an epic reply to a journalist.

#5 About youngsters in the ODI team

In 2012, India were infamously whitewashed 4-0 in Australia and several seniors, including MS Dhoni were criticized for their performances. However, India announced a different squad for the tri-series featuring Australia and Sri Lanka. The ODI setup was a youthful and vibrant unit with only Sachin and Sehwag being the seniors.

#4 Reply about the helicopter shot

Prior to the 2016 Asia Cup, India hosted Sri Lanka for a three-match T-20 series. After losing the first game, India bounced back strongly to win the second game. In the post-match interview, a journalist asked why Dhoni does not play the helicopter shot as frequently as before.

Dhoni replied savagely, saying “You cannot fly a helicopter under the ocean”. He further added that he can only play the helicopter shot if the ball is in the slot and for a bouncer, he has to play a different shot.

#3 Kohli stabs Dhawan

In the second Test of the 2014-15 Australian tour, India was dealt with a heavy blow just moments before the start of day 4. Shikhar Dhawan had injured his hand during net practice and his absence meant that Virat Kohli had to walk in quickly.

India collapsed badly, and it was reported that there was unrest in the dressing room since Shikhar’s injury was not informed early. When a reporter raised questions about the incident, Dhoni gave an epic reply. He said, “Kohli stabbed Shikhar and Marvel or Warner Bros can make a film about the incident”.

#2 Cars and bikes

Throughout the 2018 IPL campaign, MS Dhoni surprised everyone game after game with his choice of bowlers. Dhoni had the luxury of several bowling options due to the presence of Bravo and Watson. In the 2018 qualifier 1, Dhoni did not use Harbhajan Singh at all but the move paid off in the end.

Dhoni summoned an Aussie reporter Sam Ferris to sit near him after he was asked about retirement. Dhoni calmly asked the reporter about his fitness levels and whether India has a credible wicketkeeper.  The reporter said that Dhoni is still very fast and India has no backup keeping option.
