“Sehwag didn’t beg for freedom, he created his freedom” – Twitter reacts after Murali Vijay said he didn’t get the freedom of Virender Sehwag in his cricketing career

Murali Vijay was one of the top attacking batters for India in the longest format of the game. The right-handed batter enjoyed playing the red ball cricket in as many as 61 matches so far.

The Chennai-born cricketer scored 3982 runs at an average of 38.3. Overall, he has slammed as many as twelve centuries and 15 half-centuries to his name. On the other hand, he failed to bring the best out of himself in the other two formats.

Murali Vijay played 17 ODIs and 9 T20Is, scoring 339 runs and 169 runs in the respective formats. He registered his personal best score of 167 runs in Tests, 72 in ODIs and 48 in T20Is.

The 38-year-old was a regular feature of the Indian Test set-up until 2018 before he fell out of favour with the Indian selectors. Currently, he plays for the Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic first-class cricket.

I didn’t get the freedom of Virender Sehwag: Murali Vijay

Meanwhile, in an interview with Sportstar, Murali Vijay said he didn’t really get the freedom of Virender Sehwag in his international cricketing journey. He further added that whatever Virender Sehwag got in his career, he didn’t get in the first place.

Furthermore, he said if he could have gotten that kind of backing from the team management, he said he could have also tried. On the other hand, Virender Sehwag has been one of the integral parts of Indian cricket history.

The Nawab of Najafgarh scored 8586 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 49.3. Notably, he has slammed 23 centuries and 32 fifties to his lofty standards of punching and counter-punching techniques.

He is the one and only Indian with two triple centuries in the longest format. On the other hand, he has played 251 ODIs wherein he scored 8273 runs at an average of 35 including 15 centuries and 38 fifties. As far as the T20I format is concerned, he scored 394 runs in 19 games including 2 fifties.
