The Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma received his Arjuna award from the ministry of sports of the Indian government earlier today and proudly posted a photo of himself and his wife Pratima with the award on Instagram.

Arjuna award is one of the most prestigious sports awards in India and it’s given to the players who have shown a remarkable level of consistency in their respective sports for a considerable period of time.

Ishant, who probably struggled for consistency in the initial years of his career, has turned out to be the spearhead of the Indian pace attack in test match cricket for the last 5-6 years and it’s because of his consistency that India has managed to win so many test matches in the southern hemisphere.

Ishant Sharma completed his 300 test wickets in the home test series against England

Earlier this year, Ishant crossed a mammoth landmark of 300 test wickets which is never an easy achievement for a bowler coming from subcontinent because he plays most of his test matches on slow, turning tracks, unlike the fast bowlers of England and Australia who get favorable conditions for fast bowling in their home test matches.

Apart from Ishant Sharma, another Indian cricketer who has been given the Arjuna award this year is the prominent member of the Indian women’s national side, Deepti Sharma. Deepti has been a quality all rounder for India for quite a few years now and it’s an award well deserved for the youngster.

Deepti has, however, not collected her award yet as she is currently in Australia playing in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), but she will be presented with this prestigious award as soon as she returns from her WBBL commitments.

Deepti, unlike Ishant, has been very, very consistent for India in all forms right since the start of her career. It took her no time at all to find her feet at the international level.
