Recently, we saw Ahmed Shahzad announce PSL retirement after he was not picked in the draft. For some, this could affect them deeply. Similarly, we could see some decisions taken if a few players go unsold in the IPL 2024 Auctions. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could announce IPL retirement if they go unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions.

1) Steve Smith

Steve Smith is one of the players who could announce IPL retirement if they go unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions. When he last played in the IPL, Steve Smith played for just over the base price as the salary. For a player of his stature and calibre, this could be disappointing.

Now, he is in better form in the T20 format. Probably, this is a good time to pick the 34-year-old. Even if he does not get picked now, Smith could bid goodbye to the competition.

2) Hanuma Vihari

Hanuma Vihari has previously expressed his disappointment at not getting picked in an auction. He might have to expect a similar fate in IPL 2024 Auctions.

He may not find suitors because his T20 game has not impressed many in recent times. Hence, if he does not get a contract, he could decide to focus on the other formats of the game. This could even lead to a retirement from the IPL.

3) Jalaj Saxena

One of the players who has not received his due is Jalaj Saxena. For the past decade or so, Jalaj has been in terrific form, especially in the longer formats. Even in the shorter formats, he has been decent. Despite being the highest wicket-taker last season in the Ranji Trophy, he was not picked for the zone-based competitions.

Now, if he does not get a call in the IPL, he might further lose motivation. It is unfortunate that a player of his talent has not been used well. Hence, he is on this list.
