As per reports, IPL 2025 is set to have a mega auction before it. That means that after IPL 2024, we could see teams being forced to retain around four to five players only. Since IPL is in a transition phase from the older era, we could see a lot of surprising moves. On that note, here, we take a look at one player each franchise might surprisingly release before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
Chennai Super Kings – Matheesha Pathirana
Matheesha Pathirana is a part of this list of one player each franchise might surprisingly release before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. For a retained player, close to INR 10 Cr has to be allotted. Pathirana might not be worth that much, especially with his injury record. Hence, CSK could release him and try to buy him back.
Delhi Capitals – Axar Patel
With Kuldeep Yadav performing so well, it would be hard to not retain him. Mitchell Marsh could be a fine investment for the future while Rishabh Pant is always there. Therefore, it is not a surprise if Axar Patel himself would want to check his market rate at the auctions.
Gujarat Titans – Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami is also a part of this list of one player each franchise might surprisingly release before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Shami is not the T20 cricketer he was a few years ago. Plus, he is having many injury issues. GT could attempt to buy him at the auctions.
Punjab Kings – Sam Curran
Sam Curran is the highest-earning player at PBKS. Last year, PBKS signed him to build the squad around him. However, the player has been in poor form. Even if he does well in the next campaign, he is likely to be released by the outfit.
Lucknow Super Giants – Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya holds an important role in the LSG setup. However, his domestic performances have not been great and Ravi Bishnoi is more important to the bowling setup. Hence, LSG might release Krunal back to the auctions.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Andre Russell
With Rinku Singh now a star, he is the designated finisher. Andre Russel is at the final few years of his career. He also has injury issues and might not be the best investment for now.
Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is one of the players who might be surprisingly released before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. The writing on the wall is that Rohit could leave Mumbai Indians at the end of IPL 2024. Of course, a lot could depend on the upcoming season but Rohit’s future at MI looks bleak.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Rajat Patidar
Is Rajat Patidar worth around INR 10 Cr? At least, for the moment, it does not look so. However, if he does well in IPL 2024, his fate could turn. Hence, RCB will be keeping their cards close to the chest for the moment.
Rajasthan Royals – Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the players who might be surprisingly released before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Chahal recently lost his BCCI contract, as well. This is being one of the best spinners in the last two editions. To add to his woes, he could also not be retained by RR.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Pat Cummins
SRH recently appointed Pat Cummins as their skipper. However, he is not that great a T20 cricketer. The franchise could release him and get him at a lower price at the mega-auctions, which is very much possible.
