BCCI might want to extend the Mega Auction cycle after the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Hence, franchises will be wary about retaining players beyond a certain age. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of one player aged above 35 each team can retain before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
Note: We have considered players who will be aged above 35 by the time IPL 2025 starts.
Delhi Capitals – Ishant Sharma
Delhi Capitals have a very young core comprising the likes of Rishabh Pant. However, going by Ishant‘s performance in IPL 2024, DC would consider his name for retention. Of course, a lot of it depends on the price which he will have to be retained for and the rules of the retention.
Chennai Super Kings – Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is a part of this list of players aged above 35 that each team can retain before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. The balance he adds is useful to any side. He has been a CSK loyal cricketer for a long-time now and hence, will be retained.
Lucknow Super Giants – Mark Wood
Mark Wood missed IPL 2024. However, he is a quality cricketer and he still has some good three to four years at his peak. Therefore, LSG could retain the English cricketer.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Sunil Narine
For the display he had in IPL 2024, it would be a shock if KKR releases Narine. He is doing well in both the departments and that would further make the decision easy for the KKR management.
Gujarat Titans – Mohit Sharma
Mohit Sharma is also a part of this list of players aged above 35 that each team can retain before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. It would be a risk but Mohit is someone who comes with a special set of skills. It is hard to find in other players. Plus, he has a lot of experience. Hence, Mohit could be retained.
Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is likely to be retained by Mumbai Indians. He has been the face of the franchise for a very long time. It would not do the brand of Mumbai Indians good if Rohit is released by the franchise at this stage of his career.
Punjab Kings – Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow may have been inconsistent but on his day, he is a terrific player. There are not many better openers than him in the T20 format. Plus, he is a fine wicket-keeper and hence, Bairstow could be retained by PBKS.
Rajasthan Royals – Trent Boult
Trent Boult will be 35 by next March. Yet, he is at the peak of his skills. Rajasthan Royals might retain him to lead the bowling attack. There are not many who display as much consistency as the Kiwi.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Virat Kohli
It is a no-brainer that Virat Kohli will be the first retention for RCB. He won the Orange Cap in IPL 2024. At this stage, Virat is still changing his game to suit the demands of the format.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a part of this list of players aged above 35 each team can retain before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Bhuvi has been a long servant of SRH. Hence, he is likely to be retained. His fitness has improved and hence, SRH management will be confident.
