Pant was allowed to open the innings in the ongoing series against New Zealand. But he failed to grab the spot as he bagged failures in both matches. He looked scratchy in the second game and managed just 6 runs from 13 balls.

In the third game, Pant showed great intent but his shot selection was again something that let him down. He looked good for his 11 runs but he went for wild heroic that saw him back in the hut for a low total.

Pant charged down and tried to hit an uppercut on a short ball by Tim Southee. He miscued it in front of the third man and Ish Sodhi took a brilliant catch to dismiss him and leave India tumbling at 21/2.

Notably, there have been a lot of discussions going around Pant’s place in the T20Is. Many have raised calls to drop him as he has been underperforming in this format. It remains to be seen if the Indian team continues with him in the shortest format of the game or not.
