Team India are locking horns with the Australian team in the first of the three-match T20I series. The match is currently taking place at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
Australia‘s T20I skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to field first. Meanwhile, Tim David, the Singaporean-Australian cricketer is making his T20I debut against India in the first game.
On the other end of the spectrum, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are playing the first T20I against Australia. They missed out in the playing XI. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said Bumrah is not playing in the first game.

The skipper echoed that Bumrah is taking a game’s break. However, the 35-year-old assured that the right-arm fast bowler might be back in action for the second and third T20I. Apart from Bumrah, young southpaw and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant also missed out in the playing XI.
The Indian skipper didn’t disclose the reason why Pant is not playing the first T20I. However, we can deduce that the team management is willing to try the experienced wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for the first game.
Jasprit Bumrah was earlier ruled out of the entire Asia Cup 2022 tourney with an injury. His absence was a major blow to India’s chances in the tournament as they failed to defend totals when it mattered the most.
The Indian cricket team clearly lacked experience in the bowling unit and it affected them badly in the tournament. They suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, after which, they were knocked out of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Indian team management would want Bumrah to spice it up in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup 2022, which is scheduled to be held in Australia (October 16 to November 13).
