Now that Virat Kohli has resigned as the T20I captain of India and the Indian team has been eliminated from the group round of T20 World Cup 2021, it is being speculated if Kohli will be retained as the ODI captain of India. But, Virender Sehwag is of the opinion that Kohli needs to continue leading India in ODIs and test match cricket.

According to Sehwag, Kohli is someone who captains the team by example and is always positive in his approach. Also, the overall performance of the team under Kohli’s captaincy in tests and ODIs has been good. So, it should be left up to him when he wants to leave the captaincy.

“He is a good player, an aggressive captain and leads from the front. Leaving or not leaving captaincy in ODIs and tests should be his personal decision,” Virender Sehwag said while interacting with the fans on Facebook.

BCCI is expected to name India’s new T20 international captain soon

BCCI will announce the T20I team of India for the 3-match series against the Blackcaps soon and the new T20I captain will also be announced with that team, but the board might not clarify its stand on the ODI captaincy anytime soon because the next ODI series that India has to play is on the South Africa tour.

As far as Kohli is concerned, he had made it clear while resigning as the T20I captain that he was willing to continue captaining India in the other two formats. Now, it’s up to the BCCI if they retain him as the ODI captain, or they announce a new white ball skipper for both T20I and ODI teams.

The new coach Rahul Dravid, who is a former Indian captain as well, might also have a say as far as the appointment of India’s next white-ball leader is concerned. Some interesting developments await the Indian fans in the next few days.
