Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Faf du Plessis as their new skipper. After the appointment, Faf sat down for a conversation about his new role and plans for IPL 2022. He also talked about RCB legend and his good friend AB de Villiers, who retired recently. In this article, we take a look as newly appointed RCB skipper Faf reacts to ABD comparison.
RCB announces new skipper
After the long delay, RCB finally announced its new skipper. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis will take over the reins from Virat Kohli, who had given up the role. There were other contenders such as Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik but the franchise has gone ahead with Faf. The player will have a few challenges and it needs to be seen how he would tackle those.
Faf reacts to ABD comparison
A few of them see Faf du Plessis as the replacement for AB de Villiers, who has retired from all forms of the game. Regarding this, while speaking to RCB, he said, “It’s huge shoes to fill in. There is no cricketer in the world that will try to fill in AB’s shoes. Those shoes are too big. I’ve got big feet but they’re never going to match AB’s feat. I wouldn’t even try, he’s an absolute great of the game.”
Faf and ABD have been good friends since their junior days. The new RCB skipper revealed that ABD had even asked him to join at RCB. Faf said, “He mentioned throughout his career that it’d be nice if I could join him yet RCB so the timing is obviously not great now that he has decided to retire and also retired three years ago in International cricket. He finished, saying, “Unfortunately, we won’t be playing together. But it’s nice that one friend replaces another. And there’s something nice to that story.”
