“Rishabh Pant will become India’s highest scoring wicketkeeper batter in test cricket,” predicts Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan is very impressed with the way Rishabh Pant has evolved as a test batsman
The former Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan has predicted that Rishabh Pant will finish his career as India’s highest run scoring wicketkeeper batter in test cricket. Pant has had a great start to his career in the longest format of the game as he has become the first Indian wicketkeeper to score test hundreds in England, Australia and South Africa.
Now in the recently finished test series against Sri Lanka, Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper ever to win a man of the series award in test cricket. These are incredible achievements for a wicketkeeper, because wicketkeeping in itself is a specialist and a tiring job.
To keep wickets on a regular basis in test cricket and then to contribute enough with the bat to break several records, it’s extraordinary and the way Pant is shaping up at the moment as a test cricketer, it seems he can continue his heroics with the bat for a long time.
Rishabh Pant can play test cricket for another 10 years: Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan, while analysing the performance of the Indian players on Star Sports at the end of the test series against Sri Lanka, said that Pant is currently only 24 years of age and he can continue playing for India for another decade. He has enough time in his hand to go at the top of the run scoring chart of Indian wicketkeepers in test cricket.
Pant has been so good with the bat for India in test cricket in the recent times that the Indian team management actually slotted him at no. 5, ahead of a specialist batsman like Shreyas Iyer, in the recent test series against Sri Lanka and the left hander totally repaid the faith of the team management with his performances.
After scoring a match influencing 90 odd in the first test, Pant then scored the fastest fifty ever by an Indian player in test cricket in the second innings of the second test.
