“RCB’s gameplan is like a scheduled flight,” Ajay Jadeja believes Virat Kohli played slow because he was fulfilling his role
Virat Kohli scored 58 runs off 53 balls in RCB's last game against Gujarat Titans
The former Indian batsman Ajay Jadeja is of the view that RCB’s gameplan with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2022 is like a scheduled flight where they carry their innings in one particular pattern and then hope that everyone fulfils the role that’s assigned to them.
Ajay Jadeja was speaking on Cricbuzz in context of Virat Kohli’s knock of 58 for which he faced 53 balls. Many people thought it was quite a slow knock even for someone who tries to anchor the innings. But, according to Ajay Jadeja, this seems to be the role that has been given to Virat Kohli at RCB.
Jadeja reckons the way the last two games had gone for RCB from the batting point of view, all they wanted from the game against Gujarat Titans was not to lose early wickets and then hoped that their finishers, the likes of Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik, would do their jobs and finish the innings with a bang.
T20 gameplan should be like a charter flight: Ajay Jadeja
Jadeja reckons the way RCB plays, it’s like a scheduled flight where it’s pre-decided where the flight will take off from, where it will land and then where it will take off from again. But, in T20 cricket, rather than a scheduled flight, a team needs a charter flight which can take off from anywhere.
It was such a funny analogy used by Ajay Jadeja that Virender Sehwag, who was the other expert on the Cricbuzz panel, couldn’t stop laughing. But, Jadeja refused to criticize Kohli for his strike rate because he kept insisting that he was only doing his role.
What happened towards the end of the RCB innings was that Maxwell played well and scored 30 odd runs at a strike rate of almost close to 200, but Dinesh Karthik, for once, couldn’t provide RCB the explosive finish that they needed and they fell probably 10-15 runs below par, which proved to be the difference, as Gujarat Titans chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand.
