In a startling development that has happened midway in IPL 2022, a report has emerged online claiming that five-time champions Mumbai Indians are looking to rope in Hindi and Marathi commentator Dhawal Kulkarni as a replacement if any of their players get injured in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Kulkarni has played in multiple seasons for the Mumbai-based franchise. He has even won championships with them and is one of the top wicket-takers for the franchise. It was a little surprising to see Kulkarni go unsold at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction because he is an experienced pacer who has played a lot of cricket in Maharashtra.
Since he found no bidders at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Dhawal Kulkarni decided to take his expertise to the commentary box and became a member of the Star Sports Hindi and Marathi commentary panel. Here’s what a report from Amar Ujala Sports Editor Abhishek Tripathi has stated:
“Mumbai Indians likely to rope in Dhawal Kulkarni for IPL 2022 if any of the player gets injured.”

It was like a dream come true representing MI in 2008: Dhawal Kulkarni
Many fans would remember that Kulkarni played his debut IPL season for the Mumbai Indians in 2008 before representing the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Lions in the later seasons. Here’s what Kulkarni had to say about his association with the Mumbai-based franchise during the initial phase of his career in an interview with Sportskeeda:
“It was like a dream come true representing MI in my first year. It was altogether a different and a special experience for me to play in front of such a big crowd at Wankhede.”
Kulkarni won IPL 2020 with Mumbai Indians and was a part of the squad that played in IPL 2021 as well. It will be interesting to see if MI rope him as a replacement in IPL 2022 in case someone gets injured.
