Mumbai Indians have inflicted a crushing defeat over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the ongoing IPL 2023. This was their second victory of the season. However, they are still on the 8th position of the points table. But looking at the way they are slowly making a comeback in this competition, it won’t be a big shock if they make it to the top 4 soon enough.
Talking about today’s match that was played at the Wankhede Stadium (MI’s home stadium), the home side won the toss and opted to field first. The Kolkata Knight Riders were off to a great start, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer, who was in fiery form today. He completed his century (104 off 51) in sensational fashion and became only the second KKR centurion.
However, after his departure, KKR was not able to capitalize on his knock, and they gave away the advantage. Thus, they ended up setting a target of just 185 runs, whereas the predicted total after the first ten overs was over 220.

The Mumbai Indians did incredibly well in chasing the total. Ishan Kishan scored 58 off 25 hits and thus gave a solid start to MI’s innings. This was his first good performance of the season and will definitely add to his confidence.
Tilak Varma (30 off 25) and Suryakumar Yadav’s (43 off 25) knocks made sure that Mumbai won this match with flying colors. Rohit Sharma and his men won the match by 5 wickets with 14 runs in hand.
This was a disappointing display by the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers. In fact, this might be their poorest display yet. This has been the story of KKR so far. Their batters have then phenomenally, but their bowlers have let them down. KKR better improve their bowling performances lest they lose out on their knockout hopes.
