On Saturday, December 10, Ishan Kishan scored the greatest individual score in the history of One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in Bangladesh. In India’s third and final ODI against Bangladesh, the left-hander accomplished the feat at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Before this, the record was held by Shane Watson, who in April 2011 at Mirpur itself struck an unbeaten 185 against Bangladesh off 113 balls. The record for the greatest individual score by an Indian batsman in an ODI in Bangladesh was also broken by Kishan, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous mark.

When India faced Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup, Kohli scored 183 runs while batting against Pakistan at Mirpur. Kishan has played a stunning knock, which has surpassed the previous record held by the former Indian captain after 10 years. The southpaw continued smashing the Bangladesh bowlers with ease, and he couldn’t be stopped.

He also hit the fasted ODI century. Kishan achieved the feat in 126 balls, which smashed the previous mark held by Chris Gayle. In 2014, Gayle hit a double century from 138 balls in a match against Zimbabwe.

Over the course of 131 balls, Kishan amassed 210 runs with the aid of 24 fours and 10 sixes. Taskin Ahmed ultimately eliminated the major threat, allowing Bangladesh to catch its collective breath. Taskin has lately made his way back from injury and has taken the position of the left-arm spinner, Nasum Ahmed, in the starting XI.

Along with Kishan’s departure, it ended the fantastic 290-run second-wicket partnership between Virat Kohli and Kishan. Kishan also set a record by being the youngest player to reach 200 runs. For the third ODI, Kishan came in for the injured Rohit Sharma.

Kishan said that he wanted to hit a six and reach his first ODI hundred. However, Virat Kohli on the other end warned him to get to his first ODI century without any fuss.

“I was batting with Virat bhai, and he was spot on with which bowlers I needed to select [to target]. I was on 95 and wanted to smack, but he calmed me down, saying it was my first hundred,” Kishan said after India’s innings got over.
