The five-match T20I series between the Indian cricket team and the South African cricket team started yesterday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. South Africa won the toss and opted to field first. The decision did not work in their favor initially as the Indian cricket team set a 212-run target even though star player and regular captain Rohit Sharma was not available for the match.

Ishan Kishan scored a fantastic half-century, while Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer played a handy cameo each for the Men in Blue. The South African cricket team did not get off to an ideal start while chasing 212 runs as they lost the wicket of their captain Temba Bavuma early.

However, the trio of Dwaine Pretorius, David Miller, and Rassie van der Dussen played excellent innings and helped the South African cricket team win the match with five balls to spare. Miller and van der Dussen had a match-winning fourth-wicket partnership of 131 runs, where both players completed their half-centuries.

After the game ended, a Twitter user posted a stat that shows how the Indian cricket team has struggled without Rohit Sharma this year. They have played 17 international matches – 11 with Rohit as captain and six under others. India has won all 11 matches under Rohit while they have lost all six under others.

Rishabh Pant comments on his captaincy experience after leading the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma

Rishabh Pant was naturally disappointed with India’s defeat in the first T20I. Here’s what he said after the match:

“We had a good total on the board. We were a little off with our execution but sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. Miller and van der Dussen played well. We thought the slower ones were working in the first innings but the wicket got better as the game went on.”
