Meanwhile, the Universe Boss recalled an interesting episode of how Virat Kohli helped him to score his first IPL century while he was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Recalling the incident that happened in 2011 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Chris Gayle said Virat Kohli kept blocking a few deliveries when he was batting on 98 in his first match so that he could score his first IPL century.
For the record, Gayle joined RCB in the IPL season as a replacement for Australian Dirk Nannes. KKR posted 171 for the loss of five wickets in their quota of 20 overs. In response, RCB chased down the target in 18.1 overs.
RCB won the game by nine wickets as Chris Gayle scored a match-winning unbeaten 102 off 55 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and seven sixes to his name.
During the game, Virat Kohli was unhappy with the bowler, Iqbal Abdullah for bowling wide when Chris Gayle was nearing his century. Kohli also felt that it might have slipped out of the bowler’s hands.
Nonetheless, Virat Kohli was adamant as he kept blocking a few balls to give Gayle the strike such that he could score his maiden IPL century.
