India women displayed a sensational show with both bat and ball as they defeated England Women by 7 wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series.
Opting to bowl first, India had a great start as their pacers Jhulan Goswami and Meghna Singh troubled the English batters with their line and lengths and reduced them to 21/2. They kept taking wickets at regular intervals and almost every bowler chipped in as they restricted the opposition to a total of 227/7.
For England Danielle Wyatt (43), Sophie Ecclestone (31), and Davidson Richards (53) made valuable contributions to help them reach the competitive total. Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as she returned with figures of 2/33.
Chasing a target, India lost Shafali Verma (1) early but a 96-run partnership between Smriti Mandhana (91) and Yastika Bhatia (50) steadied the innings for their side. Skipper Harmanpreet then chipped in with a crucial unbeaten 74 runs and finished the match with a six to help her side complete a 7-wicket victory.
