“It’s Sort Of A Miracle”- Bhanuka Rajapaksa Explains Why Playing For Punjab Kings Is A Dream Come True For Him

Punjab Kings have got off to a great start in IPL 2022. The Mohali-based franchise played with a relatively conservative approach in the previous two IPL seasons. But this year, the team has shown that it will play aggressively without thinking much about results. One of the players who has played a huge role in PBKS’ success is Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

The Mohali-based franchise became the first team in IPL history to sign Rajapaksa at the auction. He is a part-time wicket-keeper and an explosive batter. Since Jonny Bairstow was unavailable for the first few matches of IPL 2022, PBKS gave a chance to Rajapaksa.

The Sri Lankan star grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He smashed a quickfire 43 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the next match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 31 runs from just nine deliveries.

In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Rajapaksa was asked about his feeling after receiving an IPL contract from Punjab Kings. The Sri Lankan star honestly replied that it was sort of a miracle.

Recalling the day when he came to know that he will play for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2022, Bhanuka Rajapaksa told ESPNCricinfo:

“It’s like a dream come true. It was my wife who broke the news to me that I had been bought by Punjab Kings. From my young days it was always Punjab Kings that my entire family had been backing. It’s sort of a miracle that I got into the same side.”

Rajapaksa concluded by saying that he had been supporting the Punjab Kings since he was a kid. Also, he felt great to be surrounded by the legends of the game as Anil Kumble and Jonty Rhodes are a part of the coaching staff in Punjab Kings this year.
