The first cycle of the ICC World Test Championship saw two top teams making it to the finals of the competition as India locked horns with New Zealand in the WTC final.
However, New Zealand were head and shoulders above Team India across all aspects of the game and as a result, they won the game by six wickets to win the ICC World Test Championship final.
Meanwhile, the second cycle of the WTC has witnessed some serious battles amongst the teams. Australia hold the numero uno spot on the table and they seem to show no signs of slowing down.
Team India holds the second position whereas South Africa moved from second to third place after their loss to Australia in the first Test match at The Gabba in Brisbane.
Here is how the Sri Lanka cricket team can qualify for the WTC Final
Sri Lanka who once held the second spot are now placed fourth on the points table. While Team India keep their WTC final hopes alive after their 2-0 series win over Bangladesh cricket, the Sri Lanka cricket team do have a chance of qualifying for the WTC final.
They will have to win the remaining games to stand a chance of making the cut for the final. Well, they have just one series remaining for Sri Lanka as they will tour New Zealand for the two-match Test series in March.
For the record, Sri Lanka’s record in New Zealand has been poor in Tests as they managed to win only twice in 19 games. However, if they manage to pull off back-to-back wins, then it would give them maximum points.
It would surely grand them 61.1% and will also be hoping that Australia can continue their dominance in Test cricket by churning out wins. If Australia wins all their remaining games and then Sri Lanka win two Tests against New Zealand, then they can get into second place.
