Despite a number of fantastic performances in the previous series, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has so far kept both Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan out of India’s playing XI in the ongoing ODI series between India and Sri Lanka. While many fans have criticized the Indian captain for his picks, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif thinks that these picks by the Hitman portray clarity in his decision-making.
Ishan Kishan recently scored a double ton against Bangladesh while Suryakumar has been by far India’s most consistent batsman in the last couple of months. Despite their great record, Rohit Sharma has snubbed them. He can not be charged by the fans for franchise favoritism as both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav have been playing under him in the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. In reality, Rohit Sharma is thinking about the long run. Mohammad Kaif has praised his pragmatic approach.
What did Mohammad Kaif say?
Although he said that it is really hard to pick between Gill+Rahul and Ishan+Sky, Kaif said that the Gill+Rahul duo is just better for the long run and Rohit Sharma has identified that. In fact, this is the tougher choice to make out of the two as the Ishan+Sky duo is more flashy as they are very supreme talents.
“It’s a really tough one – Ishan + Surya or KL + Gill. I think Rohit Sharma has made it very clear as a captain. The boys have been playing for the last couple of years, they have been getting runs. Last year Gill and KL Rahul played well. Shubman Gill is opening the innings and getting runs and KL Rahul is finishing the innings, the way he did in the last game – fantastic. What I like about Rohit Sharma is that he is very clear in his thoughts,” Mohammad Kaif said.
