Team India locked horns with the New Zealand cricket team in the first of the three-match ODI series at Eden Park in Auckland. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is back to lead the team for the series.
Earlier, the skipper missed the third and final T20I against Team India due to a pre-arranged medical appointment. Talking about the first ODI, Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first.Â
Batting first, the Men in Blue got off to a scintillating start to the game. The opening pair namely Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill added 124 runs for the opening wicket before Gill departed for a well-made half-century.
The skipper constructed his innings with the help of 13 boundaries as he scored 77 runs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 80 off 76 balls including 4 boundaries and 4 maximums. Washington Sundar chipped in with a quickfire 37 off 16 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Team India posted a challenging total of 306/7 in their full quota of 50 overs. Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets apiece. On the other hand, Team India failed to defend the target as they ended up losing the ODI series opener.
Despite starting the game well with the help of Umran Malik and Shardul Thakur, India failed to capitalize on the chances properly. The likes of Kane Williamson and Tom Latham took the game away from the visitors.
The duo added 221 runs for the fourth-wicket as Black Caps chased down the target in 47.1 overs. Kane remained unbeaten on 94 (7 fours, 1 six) whereas Latham remained not out on 145 (19 fours, 5 sixes).
At the post-match presentation, Dhawan revealed the main reason behind New Zealand chasing down the target. The skipper added that the bowlers bowled short of length and that was when Tom Latham took the game away from them, particularly in the 40th over.
New Zealand chase down 307 runs with 17 balls left in the match.
