Mumbai Indians are one team that is making strong moves towards the upcoming auctions. The franchise has been active in the trade window and has also taken some bold calls by releasing some cricketers. While all the focus will be on the likes of Sam Curran and Ben Stokes at the auctions, a few of the recently released players will also garner some interest. On that note, here, we look at three released players by other franchises whom Mumbai Indians can target in IPL 2023 Mini Auctions.
1) Jason Holder – Lucknow Super Giants
Jason Holder’s form in T20s has been inconsistent in recent months. Since he was on a high salary, LSG released him. It would not be a surprise if the franchise went for him again.
However, Mumbai Indians need a candidate for No.7 for IPL 2023. With Kieron Pollard retiring and Daniel Sams being released, the franchise needs a pace-bowling all-rounder. While they would target someone like Sam Curran, they might not have sufficient funds. Hence, they could end up targeting someone like Holder.

2) Shivam Mavi – Kolkata Knight Riders
Shivam Mavi is one of the released players by other franchises whom Mumbai Indians can target in IPL 2023 Mini Auctions. It is clear that MI needs a solid domestic pace option as the backup for Jasprit Bumrah. In fact, there might be one slot available in the starting XI itself.
Since MI may not worry much about death bowling, they could look at someone like Shivam Mavi. He is good at the start of an innings and would add decent depth to the batting unit, although he is yet to prove himself with the bat in IPL.
3) Shreyas Gopal – Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mumbai Indians have adopted an interesting strategy when it comes to their spin unit. They have released both Mayank Markhande and Murugan Ashwin while Kumar Kartikeya is all set to lead the spin attack.
Experience is a must and the franchise would preferably need a leggie. Shreyas Gopal has played for MI before and has a decent amount of experience. He is also a decent batter. At least, as a backup, the franchise might be interested in his services.
