IND vs SA Live Update: Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, has explained why numerous prominent players will not be participating in the next five-match Twenty20 International series against South Africa, which will begin on June 9. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Sharma will not be playing against the Proteas.

Some people anticipated India to have a similarly formidable team when South Africa announced a formidable lineup for the series. On the other hand, when KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were announced as the series’ captain and vice-captain, respectively, quite a few people’s eyebrows were raised.

Rahul Dravid talks about resting his main players who play in all three formats

Rahul Dravid gave an interview to the media before the first Twenty20 International and highlighted why it was essential for the major players who compete in all three forms to have some time off. He said:

“It is not at all difficult to do so. Rohit and I are still in communication. Since Rahul has served as a captain in the past, we have a good understanding of many different things. It is unreasonable to expect all of our players who are proficient in all formats to be available for every series, like Rohit, who is one of those guys.”

Dravid also provided some insight into the one-off test match that will take place against England beginning on July 1. He believes that the rest and break will allow the players to save their energy for the important match that is coming up. He added:

“We need to manage them beforehand to make sure that they are at their best when the major tournaments roll around. We also need to make sure that they are in good physical shape. We also have a test match in the UK that was originally scheduled for the previous year, and we need to make sure that we do all we can to put together the best team possible for that test match.”

IND vs SA Live Update: Rahul Dravid talks about rotating his players

According to Rahul Dravid, because there are so many international cricket matches played throughout the year, it is very difficult to select the best XI in every one of those matches.

The 49-year-old believes that there is potential for other younger players to step up to the challenge presented by this scenario. Dravid is also of the opinion that this will assist the management in evaluating the breadth of potential that is there in Indian cricket.

In response to this, he said: “Due to the hectic nature of the schedule, we have to be aware that there may be occasions when we need to give our key players a break. There will be certain games in which we won’t be able to deploy our best XI. This not only provides playing time for our younger players but also boosts the depth of our roster and affords us the chance to evaluate how talented those players are.”

On Thursday, June 9, the inaugural Twenty20 International (T20I) match between India and South Africa will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
