Former Indian cricketer Rohaan Gavaskar has said that one cannot say that Virat Kohli has returned to form based on the half-century he hit against Hong Kong in India’s second match of the Asia Cup 2022. He also believes that going into the T20 World Cup 2022, India would want the former skipper to regain full form.
“A half-century against Hong Kong is something that we would have taken for granted in the past,” Rohan Gavaskar on Virat Kohli’s half-century
Virat Kohli’s half-century against Hong Kong was welcome to run for him after the lean patch. The former Indian skipper of late struggled to score runs and many even started to question his place in the Indian XI.
His struggle to score runs was evident as he looked completely out of colour and even failed to score a half-century. After his miserable tour of England, Kohli decided to take a break from cricket and made a comeback in the Asia Cup.
Kohli scored crucial 35 runs against Pakistan and then went on to smash a half-century against Hong Kong. After his innings against the associate nation, many were of the opinion that the right-hander has regained his form.

However, Rohan Gavaskar, feels that it’s not fair to judge Kohli’s form after his knock against Hong Kong. Speaking on Sports 18 show ‘Sports Over the Top’, he said:
“The fact that we have to talk about Virat Kohli getting a half-century against Hong Kong, I don’t think we do justice to the ability and the kind of performances that Virat has done in the past. A half-century against Hong Kong is something that we would have taken for granted in the past when Virat is going out to bat, this is with all due respect to Hong Kong, because this is what he has done against most teams,”
Rohan Gavaskar feels India needs Virat Kohli in form for the T20 World Cup 2022
After the Asia Cup, the next aim for the Indian Cricket Team will be to win the T20 World Cup 2022. Rohan Gavaskar feels that India needs a senior batter like Kohli to be in form for the marquee tournament. He said:
“He has gone through a little bit of a rough patch, he has gone through a terrible phase, and as you said, this is hopefully a sign of things to come. Going into that World Cup, we need players like Virat, who are world beaters, to be in the best form of their lives,” he said.
