On Sunday in Mount Maunganui, in the second Twenty20 International of a three-match series against New Zealand, Suryakumar Yadav continued his fine form by smashing his second T20I century.

Yadav reached his century off only 49 balls in India’s penultimate over. After that, he hit a four and a six, but he was out of luck when it came to the strike in the final over, and India only scored 191-6 off of their 20 allotted overs. Yadav’s unbeaten 111 came off 51 balls and included 11 fours and 7 huge sixes.

He had previously scored a hundred for his country earlier this year in another Twenty20 International against England. Yadav has scored 1151 runs in Twenty20 Internationals in 2022, the most by any batter, with an outstanding 47.95 batting average and 188.37 strike rate.

With 239 runs at an outstanding average of 59.75 and a mind-boggling strike rate of 189.68, he was one of India’s best batters at the recent T20 World Cup in Australia. This includes scoring fifty in the innings against South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands.

The tournament helped him rise to the top of the ICC T20I rankings as a batter, a position he appears unlikely to relinquish any time soon.

In a Twenty20 International played in Ahmedabad last year, the 32-year-old made his India debut. In the upcoming ODI season, he made his debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2021. He has scored 340 runs in 13 One-Day Internationals, for an average of 34. He has scored 1395 runs in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), including two hundreds and 12 fifties, but he is best known for his success in this format.

During his innings, one Twitter user tagged Harsha Bhogle and tweeted: “Please @bhogleharsha please stop praising @surya_14kumar form this much if you jinks it the whole country will raise hellfire on you.”

To which Bhogle replied: “Well….I am a commentator, not a witch doctor, and I have to tell it as it is….”
