Things are getting intense for the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023. The summit clash is expected to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval and with just a few series left in the cycle, we are still unsure of who will be the two teams that will play the summit clash. Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India are in contention and it remains to be seen who will be the two teams to play the final in June this year.
Qualification scenario for South Africa for World Test Championship Final after 2-0 series loss against Australia
Ahead of South Africa’s series against Australia, the Proteas were one of the favourites to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. But their poor performance in the ongoing series against the Pat Cummins-led side has hampered their chances.
They were placed second on the points table but two thumping losses and a draw in the final game against Australia in the three-match series have put them fourth on the points table with 48%. Their chances of qualifying for the final have been dented but they are not completely out.

Their chances to qualify now depend on other teams. They now need to whitewash West Indies in two-match series at home. The Proteas then would be depending on Australia to beat India in at least 2 games and then New Zealand to win against Sri Lanka.
However, if India beats the Pat Cummins-led side by 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0, then South Africa will officially be out of contention for the WTC Final race.
South Africa’s schedule for the next fixtures
South Africa will now go back home and play West Indies in the two-match series. The first Test will be played in Centurion from Feb 28th to March 4th before going to Johannesburg from March 8th to 12th.
