IPL expansion happened just two years ago. It is clear that the BCCI could look to further expand the league in the coming years. After all, it is seen as the future of the sport and it will always be a commercially viable model. On that note, here, we take a look at how Madhya Pradesh could get an IPL Team soon.
An IPL Team for Madhya Pradesh
Ahead of the upcoming Madhya Pradesh state elections, Congress has reportedly included in its manifesto that the party would try for an IPL Team for the state if they come to power. Well, that is a first for a political party to include such a promise. This shows the levels at which IPL has grown and why it is so very important for the fans.
Nevertheless, Indore is one city that is crazy for cricket. Even in the previous expansion, many participants had a bid made for this city. Holkar Stadium has a pitch that ensures a lot of runs. Madhya Pradesh, as a cricket state, is doing well these days with players like Rajat Patidar, Avesh Khan and Venkatesh Iyer impressing in the IPL. They also won the Ranji Trophy recently. Hence, it does make sense for Indore to have an IPL franchise soon.
Expansion of the Indian Premier might not happen soon
However, it is unlikely that IPL will be expanded in the coming years. 10 teams are ensuring good competition but sometimes, there is proof that the quality could drop.
At the grassroots level, cricket has to grow further so that teams have sufficient talented cricketers. On the other hand, it is also important to ensure that fans do not feel fatigued watching a lot of IPL cricket. Considering all these factors and also seeing the busy cricketing calendar, IPL may not expand soon.
