“He will soon have most international centuries too” – Twitter reacts as Virat Kohli has the most hundreds in a winning cause in ODI history

India’s run-scoring machine Virat Kohli scripted history yesterday after he became the first player to smash more ODI centuries against two different opponents in his international career.

The world-class batter smashed nine ODI centuries against Sri Lanka and West Indies, in what is an extraordinary accomplishment. For the record, legendary Sachin Tendulkar hammered eight centuries against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

The Master Blaster has nine centuries against Australia in One-Day Internationals. During the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati, Virat Kohli edged past Sachin Tendulkar in terms of the most tons scored against Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli notched up his 45th century in the 50-over format, in what was also his ninth century against Sri Lanka. The modern-day batting great is only four centuries away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 centuries in ODIs.

It is also worth mentioning here that the run-machine has recorded the most centuries in a winning cause in the history of One-Day Internationals. This is precisely the reason why he is labelled as the “chase master”.

He has always stepped up and delivered the goods for Team India in the run-chase when it mattered the most. Notably, Virat Kohli has scored 37 ODI centuries in a winning cause.

Virat Kohli’s presence and form factor are so vital for Team India going forward into the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 which is slated to be held in India for the first time.

Kohli also became the quickest batsman to complete 12,500 runs in One-Day Internationals. Currently, the veteran cricketer has scored 12,584 runs and will be looking to add more runs to his tally in the next two games of the ODI series.

Kohli has an incredible batting average of 57.72 including 45 centuries and 64 fifties to his name.
