Former Indian cricket team batter Mohammad Kaif recently selected the best captain among all 10 teams in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Kaif was a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad that won the inaugural IPL season. He has retired from all formats of the sport now, but he regularly shares his views on the recent happenings in the cricket world.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Mohammad Kaif reflected on the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 match which happened last night at the Eden Gardens. Table Toppers Gujarat Titans beat the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals to book a place in the final match of the tournament. David Miller won the Man of the Match award for his 68-run knock.
Kaif heaped praise on Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya for his excellent captaincy in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Not many fans backed him to make it big as a captain in IPL 2022, but the former Mumbai Indians star has surprised everyone with his leadership skills. Here’s what Kaif had to say about him:
“The guy (Pandya) stands at mid-off and speaks to the bowler on every ball, so much coordination, so much talk, you can talk about the transparency or the role. We didn’t see a better captain than Hardik Pandya in this IPL, he did fantastic captaincy.”
Mohammad Kaif gave another reason why Hardik Pandya is the best captain in IPL 2022
During the same discussion, Kaif added that one more reason why Hardik Pandya is the best captain of IPL 2022 is that he knows when to bat or bowl first after winning the toss. He highlighted that the Qualifier 1 match was a pressure game given that GT lost three of their last five matches.
However, Pandya also considered the overcast conditions and elected to field first. Usually, teams decide to bat first in pressure matches.
