Yuzvendra Chahal has finally disclosed the exact details of what happened between him and the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Chahal played multiple seasons for RCB, but the Bangalore-based franchise did not retain him ahead of the mega auction.

Fans were shocked to see Chahal absent in the RCB squad because before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, the franchise had one spot vacant in the retention list. It is not that Chahal had a bad IPL season in 2021. He remained one of the top bowlers of the team. Still, the franchise did not retain him.

Looking at the retention list, fans assumed that Yuzvendra Chahal would have asked for more money. However, the leg-spinner revealed the following details in an interview with Times of India:

“The reality is that Mike Hesson (RCB Director of Cricket) called me and said ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions’ (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj). They didn’t ask me whether I wanted to be retained or tell me if they wanted to retain me.”

Mike Hesson told Yuzvendra Chahal that Royal Challengers Bangalore will go for him at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction

After losing his place in the RCB squad, Yuzvendra Chahal received a message that the Royal Challengers Bangalore would go for him at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. However, RCB could not sign him as they used majority of their funds for Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel.

“Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention,” Chahal added.
