“Calculators are out already?” – Twitter reacts as RCB’s net run rate drops drastically after their huge loss to KKR

Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Faf du Plessis announced their arrival in style with a magnificent win over Mumbai Indians in their first game at their fortress, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB were the most consistent team in the last three seasons of the Indian Premier League. They are the only team that made it to the playoffs in the last three editions of the lucrative IPL.

After starting the ongoing campaign with a positive perspective, there were plenty of expectations from the fans regarding the title hopes. However, KKR totally exposed RCB’s frailties in the recently-concluded encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

RCB’s net run rate drops drastically after their huge loss to KKR

Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore won their first game by eight wickets and opened their account with a win. After a sensational win, RCB’s net run rate was +1.981.

However, after surrendering at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the next game, their current net run rate is -1.256. It is indeed a big loss to RCB and there are plenty of lessons to learn from this defeat.

Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 204/7 in their quota of 20 overs. The two-time IPL champions largely benefitted from the services of Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh as the duo stitched together a 103-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

While Shardul Thakur scored 68 off just 29 balls including 9 fours and 3 sixes, Rinku Singh scored 46 off 33 balls including two fours and three sixes to his name. The duo helped KKR post a challenging total on the board.

In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore were bowled out for a mere 123 runs. They went on to lose the game by 82 runs as they suffered their first defeat this season. Their Net Run Rate has now dropped drastically.

They will be looking forward to bouncing back to winning ways in the next game as they will take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 10 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
