Mumbai Indians actually had a good outing in the IPL 2024 Auctions. They had a limited purse but had to build a pace attack around Jasprit Bumrah. They did that to perfection by adding Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka and Nuwan Thushara to the setup. All these players are good enough to support Mumbai at different phases of the game. However, during the auctions, it was clear that MI had some other targets, as well. However, they could not land these signings. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two foreign players MI targeted in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not sign.

1) Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was one of the initial targets for Mumbai Indians. However, after the bidding for Cummins heated up, they had to move to other targets. Eventually, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed the Australian skipper for a sum of above INR 20 Crores.

Had Cummins joined Mumbai, it would have been a solid pace attack for the five-time champions. Especially with two bouncers allowed in an over from IPL 2024, the middle-overs would have been excellent for MI with both Bumrah and Cummins bowling in tandem. The Aussie would have also added some batting depth to the side.

2) Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc is one of the foreign players MI targeted in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not sign. As soon as Starc’s name came up, MI was one of the first teams to show interested. However, by then, they had less remaining funds and their interest, hence, did not last long. It was KKR that signed Starc for a record fee.

While Starc would lead the bowling attack at KKR, he would have made MI one of the most feared pace attacks had he joined them. The new-ball attack would have then been one of the best in the history of the league.
