“Do Bowlers Have Less Brains?”- Aakash Chopra Gives A Reply To Fans Who Questioned Jasprit Bumrah As Indian Captain

Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to become the captain of the Indian cricket team for their upcoming ICC World Test Championship match against the England cricket team. He will become the first specialist fast bowler to captain in an international match in this century. The reason behind it is that regular captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19, while vice-captain KL Rahul is injured.

Bumrah was the vice-captain to KL Rahul earlier this year when both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were unavailable for the ICC World Test Championship match against the South African cricket team. He has much international experience under his belt, but some fans questioned the decision because he is a bowler.

Over the last many years, batters have captained the Indian team. The trend has changed in international cricket lately with Pat Cummins becoming the skipper of Australia. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra recently said:

“Jasprit Bumrah is going to lead in the Edgbaston Test, this is a huge thing. It’s a huge honor. A lot of people ask why a bowler cannot be the captain? Do bowlers have less brains that they are not able to strategize?”

During the same video, Aakash Chopra added that fans should dismiss the thought that only batters should get the opportunity to lead. He mentioned that the brains of the bowlers work faster than that of the batters.

“Dismiss that totally, their brains work more than batters because they have the ability to read different batters,” added Chopra.
