The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant believes that in English conditions, it’s very important for a batsman to disturb the line and length of the bowlers and ensure that the bowlers can’t keep hitting the areas they want to hit.

According to Rishabh Pant, who scored his second test match hundred in England yesterday at Edgbaston, when the conditions are helping the bowlers, they want to hit a certain area in terms of their line and length and if they are allowed to hit that area, the batsman would be in trouble at some point of time.

Pant batted very differently from how India’s top order batted at Edgbaston. When he walked out to bat, the ball was still seaming around, but he took all the scoring opportunities that came his way unlike the top-order batsmen, some of whom were probably a bit too cautious early on.

Rishabh Pant was successful in his attempt of disturbing the line and length of English bowlers

After scoring whirlwind 146 runs in just about two sessions, Rishabh Pant was dismissed by England’s part-time spinner Joe Root towards the fag end of the first day’s play, but before that, he had put India in a fighting position or probably a little bit ahead in the test match.

While Pant played some eye-catching cover drives and cut shots during his innings, he also tried some strange shots, one of which was reverse scooping James Anderson over the slips and he confirmed in the press conference later that whatever he was doing, the intention behind that was to disturb the line and length of the bowler.

Pant succeeded with his intentions to a large extent as the English bowlers indeed got frustrated and there were quite a few deliveries bowled short and down the leg side as well, which not only Pant, but his partner Ravindra Jadeja also took full toll of.
