“2016 is back on repeat mode”, Twitter reacts as Virat Kohli scores his 74th hundred in international cricket

Virat Kohli has done it again! Proving his haters wrong, the former Indian captain has scored his 74th International century (46th in ODIs) in the third match of the ongoing 3-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka which is being played at Trivandrum’s Greenfield stadium. Today’s pitch has definitely favored the batters a lot as this is in fact the second ton of the day. Just moments ago, Indian opener Shubman Gill scored his century and now Virat Kohli has done it too. Thanks to the brilliant performances of these two batters, India is already in a winning position now and they will surely win this match and whitewash Sri Lanka 3-0 in the series.

Talking about the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. It turned out to be the perfect decision for India. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma’s 90+ runs opening partnership gave India just the start they required. After the captain’s departure (after scoring 42 runs), Virat Kohli came in and the partnership between Gill and Kohli was even better.

Virat Kohli went the last three years without a single century and he finally broke his century drought last year in the Asia Cup when he scored a ton against Afghanistan. Since then, he has totally redeemed his form.

In fact, this is Kohli’s second century in this series. He scored a ton in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. After a disappointing 4-runs stint in the second match, he has again redeemed himself with a century in the third match.

Sachin Tendulkar has a record 49 centuries in One Day Internationals. Virat Kohli needs just 3 more ODI centuries to match that record and 4 more to beat that record. We hope that he will be able to do that soon.
