Tagenarine Chanderpaul selected for Australia Tests

West Indies’ next assignment will be against Australia in the five-day format. Two Tests will happen between the nations with the first one starting on November 30th. Having been knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the first round, Head Coach Phil Simmons stepped down from the role. The assignment against Australia will be his last.

Meanwhile, Tagenarine, the son of legendary batter Shivnarine has been selected for the series. The 26-year-old opener has, so far, played 50 FC games and has scored close to 2700 runs at an average of 34. He has done well recently and hence, got his opportunity.

Speaking about the selection, lead selector Desmond Haynes said, “We have one newcomer to the team in Tagenarine Chanderpaul. He equipped himself very well in the West Indies Championship four-day matches and also did a very good job at the top of the order against Bangladesh A in Saint Lucia this summer. He has what it takes to do well at the highest level.”

Shivnarine is a legendary cricketer and is also popular for his stance while batting. He is the second-highest run-getter for West Indies in Tests, just below Brian Lara. A few years ago, both he and his son played domestic cricket in the same XI. While that news had become viral, his son getting his first call-up is good news for his fans. There were plenty of reactions about the same on the internet. We take a look at some of them below:
