The strength of international squads is getting stronger day by day and so is the competition. Even when the player gets ruled out of the series or the tournament, the board is making replacements in no time.
The reason behind players’ absence would be because of untimely injuries. However, not many players’ performances do take a hit upon making a comeback to international cricket because they have been on a long hiatus.
It is absolutely imperative for the players to play a bit of domestic cricket in a bid to raise their levels. Once they hit the top gear, it is when they should be playing international cricket.
For the record, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been out of cricketing action for quite a while owing to their respective injuries. Both players missed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Gautam Gambhir gives an honest statement about bowlers making a comeback after a long time
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir made a straightforward comment about bowlers making a comeback to international cricket after a long time.
According to the 2011 World Cup winner, bowlers shouldn’t be brought into international cricket straightaway if they are returning to the team after a long time.
The former cricketer echoed that it is important for the bowlers to switch to domestic cricket to gain confidence. He stated that the bowlers should bowl some overs in domestic cricket to get the rhythm back.
Gambhir further added that once the bowlers get the much-needed confidence, they can go on to bowl for the Indian cricket team. Gambhir’s comments come after Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
For the record, Jasprit Bumrah’s last international appearance came against Australia during a T20I match on September 25, 2022.
Completely agree and this should be for the batsmen also!

This is applicable for all players… Same thing was done for Rahul… After Injury he was in team as captain during Zim tour… Till the last match he played he is struggling to get runs….. Why can't they go and play few domestic matches…

Unfortunately there are no rules for big names in Asian countries. Fakhar and Shaheen coming back without playing domestic. Same goes for Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul. Rahul came back in T20 WC without playing domestic

Yeah r8. BCCI should set this rule for everyone. Those who are injured now should play domestic cricket first .

True that. Should be applicable for all players who are on a 'break', irrespective of their seniority. That is how Pujara got back to his rhythm, shouldn't be a concern for all players to follow the same
