Aakash Chopra has expressed scepticism on the prospects of Shreyas Iyer being selected to play for India in the next Asia Cup 2022.

From August 27 to September 11, the United Arab Emirates will play host to the most prestigious competition on the Asian continent. The objective for Team India will be to use this event as a means of selecting players for the Twenty20 World Cup that will take place later this year.

What did Aakash Chopra say about Shreyas Iyer?

In a video that was uploaded to his account on YouTube, Chopra discussed some of the difficulties that have arisen during the selection process for Team India. The following are some of the things he mentioned about Shreyas:

“Is it possible that Shreyas Iyer will be a member of this team? Since Shreyas Iyer will not be travelling to Zimbabwe, it can be assumed that he will be a member of this squad. But does the starting eleven really have room for someone like him?”

Earlier in the year, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a very successful Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka. However, he has been found to be somewhat lacking in IPL 2022 and the T20I games that have been played after that. His difficulties in defending against the short ball have come to the forefront, which has led to concerns being raised regarding his status in the team.

Aakash Chopra also has some reservations regarding Dinesh Karthik’s continued participation in the Indian XI. It is going to be very challenging for Team India to have both Pant and Karthik in the starting XI.

The first possibility is that Pant will most likely be selected given that he not only offers a much-requested left-handed alternative but also has the versatility to play anywhere in the batting order.
