England cricket team’s fast bowler Jofra Archer recently recalled how the former English skipper Eoin Morgan fought with people to include him in the squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Archer played an integral role in England’s success during the 2019 Cricket World Cup, but not all officials and fans were in favor of selecting him straightaway for the mega event.
The English team was doing well in ODI cricket even before Jofra Archer made his debut for the team. Thus, the fans and officials affirmed that they must stick with the winning combination instead of trying an inexperienced player at the mega event.
However, Eoin Morgan went against them and picked Archer in the team. Eventually, it was Archer who bowled the decisive Super Over against the New Zealand cricket team and helped the England cricket team win their maiden Cricket World Cup trophy.
Jofra Archer says 2019 was the greatest summer of his life
Eoin Morgan has retired from international cricket now. Paying tribute to him and recalling the 2019 summer in a chat with Mirror, Jofra Archer said:
“The summer of 2019 was the greatest of my life and I really appreciated the part he played. I would like to thank him for going against the grain and selecting me because, before I came in, a lot of people were saying that a winning team should not be changed and that it would affect the chemistry in the group.”
Archer is currently out of action because of his injury issues. The right-arm fast bowler missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and IPL 2022 because of his injury, but he is expected to be fit by September this year, meaning he could be available for selection for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. It will be interesting to see if Archer makes it to the final squad.
