Before the series started, there were a lot of expectations from the matchup. In the last tournament, Australia had it easy against West Indies. Hence, many felt that they needed a tougher competitor. With South Africa having defeated India around a year ago, they were in good form and their pace attack would anyways suit the Australian conditions.

However, it turned out to be a disastrous performance by the Proteas. Batting first, South Africa could make just 152 in the first innings. If not for Kyle Verreynne‘s gritty innings, it could have been worse. The bowlers, though, did a good job by restricting Australia to just 218. All the visitors needed was a decent batting performance and they could have put Australia under tremendous pressure. However, they were bundled out for just 99 runs. Australia had an easy target and they lost four wickets in scoring 35 runs which was enough to win the match.

Virender Sehwag reacts

There has always been a complaint that pitches in India support spin too much. Therefore, solid performances by India at home are never rated highly. In fact, there is criticism when a game gets over fast.

However, if the same happens in the SENA Nations, the argument is different. Therefore, Sehwag was unhappy with the way things are seen. Here is how he reacted on Twitter:

Making the pitch suitable to the strength of the hosts is a common strategy. However, calling out when India does it and not making a big thing out of it when any other nation does the same is what has been disappointing. We can expect further conversations regarding the same in India vs Australia Test series next year.
