In the current age, captaining Team India in any format is likely to be the result of a cricketer’s performance in the Indian Premier League. The IPL is a tough league and if a player can do well there, he will surely be an asset when it comes to India, as well. That said, a few players have got the opportunity to lead Team India but they are yet to make their captaincy debut in IPL. Here, we take a look at two cricketers who recently led Team India without leading a single game in the IPL.

1) Ruturaj Gaikwad

It was a surprise when Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed the captain of the Indian Asian Games squad. However, considering India is looking at the future, it was a good decision that BCCI made. Rutu is a calm character. To further develop his game and personality, this was going to be a good challenge for him.

On the other hand, in IPL, Ruturaj is yet to captain a game. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni shared responsibilities while in the recent campaign, MSD won the tournament. That said, maybe, after the retirement of Dhoni, Rutu might take the baton forward at CSK.

2) Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the cricketers who recently led Team India without leading a single game in the IPL. After his return from injury, Bumrah was made the captain of the team for the Ireland T20I series. Of course, even before this, he has led India even in Tests.

However, in Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma is the captain and it is hard to replace him. In the past, Kieron Pollard was the option in case Rohit missed a game. Suryakumar Yadav also led the franchise last season. This was also because Bumrah was ruled out of the entire campaign.
