Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar greeted his longtime friend and teammate from their days together on the Indian national cricket team, Vinod Kambhi, on his 50th birthday in January of last year, and asked Vinod for his funny take on what it’s like to be fifty.
The following year, on the eve of the ‘Master Blaster’s’ own fiftieth birthday, Kambli may find himself asking his pal the same thing.
The Mumbai Indians made sure that Tendulkar would be the one to cut the cake at their home venue, the Wankhede, yesterday during their match against the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023.
Tendulkar also celebrated the 25th anniversary of his legendary innings in Sharjah against Australia by attending a local function in Mumbai and cutting a cake in his honour.
A humorous anecdote from the ‘Master Blaster’s’ playing days featuring Vinod Kambli and a West Zone versus South Zone match in Rajkot was told at this function.
Tendulkar mentioned a section of the stadium filled with women, and how, as an entertainer, Kambli made an effort to win over the crowd when he was on the field.
Sachin Tendulkar recalls a funny incident surrounding Vinod Kambli
So, Tendulkar said that after Kambli took a high catch at the long-on fence to eliminate one of the batters, Kambli removed his hat, glanced at the females, and signalled to shoot at the ball like James Bond.
“After taking the catch he removes his hat, he’s looking at all the girls, throws the ball up in the air and pretends to shoot the ball like James Bond,” Tendulkar hilariously describes.

But the comedy really took off when Kambli, caught up in the moment, failed to see that the batsmen had scored three runs on a no-ball.
Tendulkar claimed that the crowd noise prevented Kambli from hearing him or the fielders shouting that it was a no-ball. The captain went on to say that he felt he should be angry with Kambli for the situation, but that he found it all very amusing instead.
