The IPL rivalry between MI and CSK has always entertained cricket fans across the world. However, in the last three years, fans have seen that the Mumbai Indians bowlers manage to take early wickets of the Chennai Super Kings team. It happened in IPL 2020 and 2021, and it happened tonight again in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. The decision worked in his team’s favor as the trio of Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah and Riley Meredith reduced the Chennai Super Kings to 39/6. At one stage, it seemed like CSK may struggle to cross the 60-run mark, but MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo have saved the team from an embarrassing total.
The start of the Chennai Super Kings team was not the best as they lost the wickets of Devon Conway and Moeen Ali. Conway was unfortunate because he was adjudged out LBW on a ball that was sliding down leg. He wanted to take a review, but there was no DRS available because of a power cut in the stadium.
MI achieved a unique feat against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022
Soon after Devon Conway walked back to the dressing room, the England cricket team’s all-rounder Moeen Ali joined Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle. Ali handed a catch to Hrithik Shokeen off Sams’ bowling before he could open his account as the Chennai Super Kings slumped to 0/2.
In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah picked up the wicket of Robin Uthappa as the Chennai Super Kings collapsed to 5/3. It was revealed that the Mumbai Indians are the only team to have picked up three wickets of Chennai Super Kings before they scored more than five runs.
CSK have lost three wickets below six runs thrice in their IPL history, and all three occasions have come against MI only.
