The 59th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League was a low-scoring encounter, where defending champions Chennai Super Kings suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of five-time champions Mumbai Indians. MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. MI bowled CSK out for just 97 runs. Harsha Bhogle posted a tweet during Mumbai Indians’ innings.
Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah and Riley Meredith were on fire at the Wankhede Stadium as they reduced the Chennai Super Kings to 39/6. It seemed like CSK would struggle to cross the 75-run mark, but MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 36-run knock made sure that the Chennai Super Kings ended with a total of 97 runs on the board.
Chasing a small target of 98 runs, Mumbai Indians were down to 36/4 in the powerplay overs. Mukesh Choudhary bagged three wickets, while Simarjeet Singh dismissed MI captain Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians struggled a bit before young players Tilak Verma, Tim David and Hrithik Shokeen guided them home.
Reacting to the batting performance from the Mumbai Indians team in the powerplay overs, Harsha Bhogle wrote during the innings:
“Much life in this game still .Mukesh Choudhary and Simranjeet have been excellent. But the #MI batting order and approach have been a bit baffling.”

He’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon: Rohit Sharma praises Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Verma
As mentioned ahead, Mumbai Indians lost four early wickets and all of a sudden, the run-chase became a little tricky. Tilak Verma then saved the day for his team with a 32-ball 34*. He smashed four fours in his match-winning knock. Commenting on Verma’s performance at the post-match presentation, captain Rohit Sharma said:
“He’s been brilliant. Playing for the first year, having such a calm head is amazing. He’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique and temperament.”
