South African international Faf du Plessis holds a truckload of experience when it comes to the Indian Premier League. The veteran cricketer who played for Chennai Super Kings was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
The four-time IPL champions decided not to retain him and meanwhile, RCB entered the race and snapped him up at the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru for INR 7 crore.
Faf du Plessis was straight away brought into the mix as RCB captain. Earlier, Virat Kohli stepped down as RCB captain post the IPL 2021 season and Faf du Plessis has been leading the team from the front since then.
Under his captaincy, RCB successfully qualified for the playoffs by finishing fourth on the points table. They also showed a great ambition beyond that by eliminating Lucknow Super Giants out of the competition. Unfortunately, they faced the end of the road as they lost to Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
Faf du Plessis opens up on the unconditional support he received from Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, RCB are currently fifth on the IPL 2023 points table. Having played seven games this season, they have managed to win four games and lost the remaining three games.
They have a big game up ahead as they will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru tonight. Ahead of the game, Faf du Plessis, in an interview with JioCinema stated that he received the unconditional support from Virat Kohli when he became the RCB captain.
The South African international said that he received support from Virat Kohli straight away when he took charge as RCB captain. He further added that Kohli and himself have a lot of support for each other. Last but not least, he concluded by adding that Virat Kohli is the most competitive guy he has ever seen in his cricketing career.
Faf Du Plessis (in JioCinema) said "I received Kohli's support straight away when I became RCB captain, we have lots of respect for each other & he is the most competitive guy I have ever seen in my career".
