Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan has been in terrific touch with the bat in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The veteran cricketer who is already the second-leading run-scorer in the IPL has been bringing a plethora of experience to the table this season.
Punjab Kings have largely benefitted from the batter’s services so far this season. Under his captaincy, Punjab Kings won the first two games by close margins. PBKS won the first game against KKR by 7 runs (DLS Method).
After that, the Mohali-based franchise churned out a winning result over Rajasthan Royals as they won the game by a whisker of five runs. They had a chance to become the first team to win a hat-trick of games.
As it turned out, they let the opportunity slip away from their hands. Sunrisers Hyderabad who were looking for a win this season eventually opened their account by beating PBKS by eight wickets.
Shikhar Dhawan has a light banter with Harsha Bhogle after the match
Talking about the game, Punjab Kings ran through a batting collapse while locking horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad recently. Punjab Kings were on the brink of posting a mediocre total on the board when they were reeling at 88/9.
Needless to say, Shikhar Dhawan led the batting attack by example as he chipped in with an unbeaten 99* off 66 balls where he composed his innings with the help of 12 fours and five sixes.
Dhawan’s terrific knock powered PBKS to a modest total of 143/9 in their quota of 20 overs. Mayank Markande was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he registered 4/15 in four overs.
In response, SRH chased down the target in 17.1 overs. Rahul Tripathi scored a match-winning knock of 74 off 48 balls (10 fours, 3 sixes). After the game, Dhawan was named the Player of the Match.
While receiving the award, Dhawan had a light banter with Harsha Bhogle. “I hope you’ll be happy with my strike rate, Harsha,” Dhawan said. Dhawan’s response comes after Harsha Bhogle recently spoke about Dhawan’s strike rate.
Shikhar Dhawan's innings will raise, should raise, the question of whether you can have an anchor batter, especially in these conditions. You can appear to have increased your strike rate by the end, but the 30 balls at run-a-ball can hurt.

The thing about @bhogleharsha is that he would have been *genuinely* happy😊 https://t.co/Hd6Uyo8pDX

Strike rate is overrated in T20I'S.
Tripathi started slowly today but found his rhythm in middle overs and won the game for srh.
An anchor innings from stokes saved England in the T20 wc final . Strike rate is important but it's not the only thing a batsmen needs in T20SAdvertisement— Yashwanth (@bittuyash18) April 9, 2023
Dhawan deserves a spot in this year’s Asia Cup and WC, not even up for a debate 🤷🏽♂️

Love it when players give it back to the comms. It's very easy to sit back, relax and pass judgements on these players.

he can be the anchor in the India side staying till the end while also maintaining 130+ strike rate

He deserves a comeback to Indian team, at least in place of Ishan as a back up opener.

I don't understand that why Dhawan is not playing in major tournaments even he is scoring runs. Bcci is using him for some fun series.
